Xiaomi 18 Fold Review: Wide Format, Leica and China ROM

RK STORE · SMARTPHONE NEWS

Updated 23 October 2026

The Xiaomi 18 Fold is most interesting for the way it changes a phone’s shape. Closed, it is short and wide; opened, it offers space for reading, photos and two apps. Add Leica cameras and a large battery, and it becomes an appealing option for someone who will regularly use the inner display.

An editorial review based on official Xiaomi information and the current RK Store configuration. We have not personally tested this device; recommendations are our assessment of that information.

Strengths and limitations at a glance

Why it is interesting

  • Wide inner display for documents, reading and reviewing photos.
  • Leica system with main, ultrawide and dedicated telephoto cameras.
  • Large battery capacity plus wired and wireless charging.
  • Four memory configurations and three colours in the RK Store range.

What to consider

  • The offered version does not support Android Auto or eSIM.
  • The wide body will not suit everyone for one-handed use.
  • China ROM has a limited system-language list and may need important apps adjusted.
  • The folding screen and hinge need more careful handling than a conventional phone.

Design and displays: more space, a different grip

The main advantage is how the space is arranged. Use the cover screen for a quick reply or map, and open the inner display for a document, gallery or two pages side by side. Xiaomi lists split-screen features and several app layouts for the large display. Individual layouts also depend on app support. [1]

The closed body is 83.6 mm wide. A 5.38-inch diagonal therefore does not mean a narrow little phone. Our assessment: this format is better suited to someone who enjoys a wider view than someone whose priority is a slim grip for one hand. [2]

Both displays offer adaptive refresh rates up to 120 Hz. Xiaomi quotes up to 4000 nits peak brightness: a maximum under particular conditions, rather than continuous full-screen brightness. Video framing and the app still matter; black bars depend on the content. [1][2]

A useful everyday approach

Cover display

Quick messages, calls, music and a brief navigation check.

Inner display

A PDF, email beside a calendar, editing a photo or comparing two offers.

The best reason to buy a folding phone is a real habit that makes you open it every day.

Leica cameras: the telephoto matters

Three different cameras offer more useful choice than a megapixel count alone. The main camera has 200 MP and optical stabilisation, the 50 MP telephoto offers 3.5× optical zoom and OIS, and the ultrawide has 50 MP. [2]

Our assessment: a dedicated telephoto is particularly appealing for portraits, details and tighter framing without relying solely on a crop from the main camera. The inner screen can serve as a larger space for reviewing and editing your work.

Megapixels alone do not establish low-light quality, motion handling or results at high digital zoom. Those require comparable original photographs; here we assess the system’s possibilities from its hardware.

XRING O3 and multitasking

Xiaomi uses its own XRING O3, built on a 3 nm process with a ten-core CPU. This hardware targets demanding apps and large-screen work. Sustained speed also depends on cooling, software and the particular app. [2]

Our recommendation: focus on the apps you use together rather than a promise of the highest benchmark score. Email beside a document is often a better reason to choose this phone than a synthetic test result.

The larger 16 GB RAM option can be useful for demanding work, but the system still controls background activity. Reliable notifications also depend on app permissions.

A 6000 mAh battery and two charging options

6000 mAh provides an appealing foundation for a large folding display. This is the manufacturer’s typical capacity figure. Actual endurance depends on inner-screen use, mobile reception, navigation and camera activity. [2]

Charging reaches up to 67 W wired and 50 W wireless with suitable compatible equipment. Another adapter may not deliver the same maximum power. Power changes with temperature and charge level, so these figures cannot establish an exact charging time. [2]

Start with the standard battery profile for everyday use. If an important app’s notifications are delayed, add a background exception for that app using our China ROM setup guide.

China ROM in Europe: what to know

Android Auto and eSIM

Not supported by the offered version. If either is essential, compare other models in our range before choosing. [3]

Languages

The listed system languages are English, German, Chinese, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Croatian is not on that system-language list. Keyboard and individual app languages are separate checks. [3]

NFC and Google Wallet

NFC is present, but Wallet also requires a supported card and a device meeting its security requirements. A preinstalled Play Store does not confirm every Google feature. [2][4]

Apps, notifications and networks

Check essential work and banking apps as well as your operator’s services. For delayed messages, follow our notification guide and adjust the selected app.

Which memory configuration should you choose?

Four configurations are offered. The suggestions below are our assessment of user needs; check the product page for current prices and availability. [3]

Configuration Who it suits
12 GB / 256 GB For lighter use and someone who regularly moves photos and video off the phone.
12 GB / 512 GB
RK STORE RECOMMENDATION
Our starting choice for most buyers: more room for apps, photos and video without moving to the most expensive configuration.
16 GB / 512 GB For demanding apps and multitasking if 512 GB is enough. More RAM, with the same storage capacity as the previous option.
16 GB / 1024 GB For a large local collection of videos, photos and files, and buyers prioritising maximum storage.

A detail worth knowing: official specifications list LPDDR5X for configurations up to 16/512 GB, and LPDDR6 for 16/1024 GB. The LPDDR6 label therefore does not apply to every version. Available free space is lower than the advertised capacity. [2]

Who should consider the Xiaomi 18 Fold?

A good fit if…

you regularly read documents or edit photos on your phone, want a dedicated telephoto camera and like the wider format with China ROM.

Compare alternatives if…

you need Android Auto every day, rely exclusively on eSIM or require a Croatian system interface. Check those needs before choosing memory and colour.

Practical tip: protect the flexible inner screen and hinge from hard particles and unnecessary pressure. Ask for model-specific service guidance before dealing with a damaged film or display.
