OnePlus 16 review: a large battery, fast display and China ROM

RK STORE · REVIEW AND BUYING GUIDE

Checked 23 October 2026 · Chinese version offered by RK Store

OnePlus 16 catches the eye with a 9000 mAh battery, a display reaching 185 Hz in supported games and a 200 MP main camera. Choosing well also means looking beyond the headline numbers. Consider the size, how much storage you need, and whether the listed China ROM version supports the functions you use every day. [1][2][3]

This is an editorial analysis of official specifications and the specific RK Store listing. We have not conducted a hands-on test. Images show the device; the chart compares stated battery capacities. [1][2][3][4][5]

Design and display: a large phone focused on speed

OnePlus 16 suits buyers who enjoy more room for maps, video and messages. It has a flat display and a metal frame, with a body 76.67 mm wide. Black, Silver and Rose Gold are listed; appearance and weight vary by colour. Moving from a smaller phone? Compare your current device's width before deciding on extra RAM. [1][3]

The display's standout feature is 1–165 Hz dynamic refresh in ordinary use and up to 185 Hz in supported games. That does not mean every app runs at 165 Hz or the European release of every game offers 185 fps. OnePlus explicitly notes that app support, game limits and power management affect the actual rate. [1][2]

OnePlus specifies a typical brightness of up to 2000 nits in automatic high-brightness mode. Treat this separately from a brightness level you can manually sustain in every condition. For everyday use, automatic brightness and adaptive refresh are practical starting points. [1][2]

Performance: demanding apps and games

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform uses a 2 nm process, alongside LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. This provides a strong hardware foundation for games, photo editing and switching between demanding apps. Actual temperature, sustained performance and individual game speeds need practical testing. [1]

Our advice for gamers: check whether your particular game supports the frame-rate setting you want on this phone and software version. Choose a balance of graphics, consistency and battery use. Without our own measurements, we do not assign benchmark results or promise a constant 185 fps.

Cameras: 200 MP main and 3× telephoto

Main camera: the 200 MP specification applies to the main camera, with an f/1.6 aperture and optical stabilisation. Higher resolution may help with detail and cropping when light allows. Megapixel count alone does not prove that every picture beats the competition. [1]

Telephoto and ultrawide: the 50 MP telephoto has OIS and up to 3× optical magnification; the 50 MP ultrawide covers architecture, landscapes and wider framing. The stated maximum 120× digital zoom is different from optical magnification. Base your choice on the regular cameras and the subjects you actually photograph. [1]

Selfies and video: the front camera offers 50 MP and autofocus. Official specifications list up to 4K/60 fps at the front and up to 8K/30 fps or 4K/120 fps at the rear, depending on recording mode. We do not rate night photos, portraits or stabilisation without comparable samples of our own. [1]

A 9000 mAh battery and two charging options

9000 mAh is a major reason to consider OnePlus 16. OnePlus uses two 4500 mAh cells connected in series and expresses capacity as an equivalent 9000 mAh. This is a stated typical value, rather than measured battery life. [1][2]

Compared with OnePlus 15's stated 7300 mAh, that is approximately 23% more equivalent capacity. It does not automatically mean 23% longer use: screen settings, reception, cameras and games affect consumption. The chart compares capacity across selected models. [1][4][5]

Typical equivalent battery capacity · mAh

OnePlus 136,000 mAh

OnePlus 157,300 mAh

OnePlus 169,000 mAh

Official typical capacities: global OnePlus 13 and 15, Chinese OnePlus 16. This chart is not a measured endurance comparison. [1][4][5]

China ROM: ready to use, with important differences

ColorOS and languages

This Chinese version uses ColorOS 17 based on Android 17. German and English are listed as available; Croatian as a system language is unconfirmed. Keyboard and individual app languages can be set separately. [1][3]

Android Auto and essential apps

The supplier lists Android Auto support. If a particular car, connection method or work app is essential, check that exact use case before ordering. The same applies to banking apps and mobile payments: NFC alone does not confirm every function. [3]

LTE Band 20 and eSIM

This version does not support LTE Band 20 (800 MHz) or eSIM. Other LTE and 5G bands are supported, but coverage without B20 can differ by carrier and location. Check where you use mobile data most, rather than relying solely on a 5G label. [1][3]

If notifications arrive late

Check notification permissions, auto-start and background activity for the important app. Adjust apps individually, such as WhatsApp or email. Our linked guide explains how to tailor China ROM settings.

Which memory option should you choose?

All four configurations are listed in our shop. Prices below are a snapshot from 23 October 2026; confirm current price and availability on the product page. [3]

Configuration Price and recommended use
12 GB / 256 GB €970
For a moderate local photo collection, streaming and cloud use.
12 GB / 512 GB
OUR STARTING RECOMMENDATION
€1,120
Our starting recommendation for frequent photos and video, with twice the stated storage of the 256 GB version.
16 GB / 512 GB €1,220
For buyers wanting more RAM for demanding multitasking; file storage is the same as the 12/512 GB version.
16 GB / 1 TB €1,350
For large local video, photo and game collections when you know you will use the space.

In this price snapshot, moving from 12/256 to 12/512 GB adds €150; moving from 12/512 to 16/512 GB adds another €100. If you run short of space for photos, consider storage first. microSD expansion is not supported, and the system and apps occupy part of the stated capacity. [1][3]

Who should consider OnePlus 16?

For a large screen and battery

If you enjoy a large phone and frequently combine video, navigation, photos and games, this model belongs on your shortlist.

For upgrading an older OnePlus

Identify what your current phone actually lacks: battery capacity, storage or a camera feature. If it still serves you well, a new processor generation alone is not a requirement to upgrade.

Check compatibility first

If you need eSIM or LTE Band 20 matters where you use your phone, do not choose this configuration without checking first. Tell us your carrier and country of use. [1][3]

Frequently asked questions

Does it include Google Play and can I use it straight away?

Yes. Google Play is already installed on OnePlus 16 from RK Store. Complete initial setup, sign in to your account and install the apps you want. [3]

Does every game run at 185 fps?

No. 185 Hz is the maximum refresh rate in supported games; frame rate also depends on the game, settings and software support. The stated ordinary-use refresh range is 1–165 Hz. [1][2]

Does it support eSIM and LTE Band 20?

This listed Chinese version supports neither eSIM nor LTE Band 20. It uses physical Nano-SIM cards; check your carrier before buying. [1][3]

Is the 200 MP camera the telephoto?

No. Here, 200 MP refers to the main camera. The telephoto is 50 MP, with OIS and up to 3× optical magnification. [1]

Do I need 16 GB of RAM?

For many buyers, 12 GB is a reasonable starting point. If your main concern is room for video and photos, look at storage capacity before paying extra for RAM. The right choice depends on your apps and habits.
